Movie Review: Eat, Pray, Love

It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Especially after hearing that it wasn't that great.

I really didn't care to see it mostly because of the 'pray' bit, but I did and it wasn't terrible.

Basically this depressing and weak woman played by Julia Roberts gives up on love and... pretty much her life in general and travels to Italy (Eat), India (Pray), and Bali (Love) to rediscover herself and start over. A total chick-flick inspirational movie.

The best segment was Eat. By far. It was just so funny. Like I had not expected to laugh that much.

The next best segment was while she was in Bali and she found love in Javier Bardem!

And India was my least favorite, mostly because I'm not that big of a fan of India.

Julia was great. She really does need to make a comeback to acting. It seems like she has 1 movie a year. And I loved the supporting cast Viola Davis, Mike O'Malley, Javier Bardem, and Richard Jenkins. James Franco was kind of ... eh. He seemed to only be in the movie for younger viewers to get some sexiness out of the movie. It was just random that he was there.

This probably just a one time viewing for me, but I didn't hate it. Just know that.

I admit defeat. After being completely against the show and what it stands for, I've given in.

Back in June, I posted an entry dubbing myself a hater of Glee and, until November, I firmly stood by that. The only time (between that post and November) that I gave in to something that was Glee was purchasing the Glee Cast's version of Bad Romance. ...I thought it was good. And I watched the Britney Spears episode... solely for Britney.

So what caused me to watch the show? Well the whole teen suicide slash bullying thing was huge at that time (not that it isn't now), but I read somewhere that Glee was doing an episode (and eventually a story arc) on bullying. So I watch "Never Been Kissed" where Kurt is greatly harassed by a jock bully and he meets Blaine (Darren Criss). My intention was to just watch the single episode, thinking that the story would come to a conclusion. I had no idea it was going to be a storyline for the season and would suck me in.

So, since then I've watched every episode to follow the Kurt-bullying storyline. I didn't think that I would become so freaking engrossed in the story and fall in love with all of the characters (except Sue). So I've seen every episode on Fox.com which, at the time, was "Grilled Cheesus" to "Special Education," plus "Britney/Brittany." And since watching "Never Been Kissed," I've downloaded six songs from the show. ...Shocking!

I may have totally fallen for the show, but that doesn't mean my opinions have changed about my high school show choir. I stand by the fact that... I hate them. Where in this show the Glee club is full of outcasts, by high school's group thought they were gods and goddesses. And for those classmates who read this, trust me, I'm not the only one who thought that.

It was hard for me to finally admit that I love the show after making my firm stance against it. Trust me, it's hard to admit defeat. I judged it and criticized it without giving it a fair chance first. I tend to do that a lot, but I'm trying to change.

So you may start seeing some posts commenting on the show. Starting really soon due to the news that they plan to replace the entire high school class by the end of the 2012 season. Dumb, but I'll comment on that later!

Movie Review: The Sorcerer's Apprentice

This movie was just as I anticipated it. I was neither disappointed nor was I impressed.

I had heard mixed reviews going into it. Most of them were positive. But I'll admit I enjoyed it.

The movie is based off the segment "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from Disney's Fantasia.

It was a good movie with great action and great comedy. And surprisingly, I didn't mind Nicholas Cage in this movie. However, I have no idea why they chose Jay Baruchel as the leading guy. He's so awkward and definitely not appealing to the eye. He did pull off some of the comedy well... I'll give him that.

I really liked Alfred Molina as the bad guy. He's just a great bad guy in general. He was amazing in Spider-Man 2 and so hilarious in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (although he flopped from good to evil to good again).

Do I think this movie has sequel potential? Yes. And honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel. However, I don't think it will happen. This seemed to be a one time deal. Nicholas Cage is having money problems so he's picking up any roles in any movies. Jerry Bruckheimer puts out movies left and right to make more money (not that I don't love him). The movie was not much of a success at the box office, bringing in only $215 million after having a $150 million production budget. And finally, it wasn't so great with the critics.

Regardless, I enjoyed it.

Movie Review: Predators

Warning: May contain spoilers. You've been warned.

This movie wasn't bad at all.

I've only seen the beginning of 1987's Predator with Arnold and I haven't seen 1990's Predator 2. I figured that because there was a 20+ year gap between the movies and I've seen both AVP: Alien vs. Predator movies, I would be fine skipping to the third installment.

Unlike the original two movies, 2010's Predators takes place on the apparent home planet of the creatures. This was one thing I was originally iffy about, but then I had to consider where these creatures had to have come from.

Thankfully, for the human characters, the creatures live on a planet identical to Earth, complete with water, greenery, and oxygen. In fact, it took nearly 30 minutes of the movie for them to realize they weren't on Earth, which I was fine with.

The characters were great. You hate them all at first but then they grow on you (until they start dying one-by-one, big shocker there!). Adrian Brody, in my opinion, seriously overacted in this movie. Adrain, this is a Predators sequel/series-reboot... it's going to take a lot for this movie to be Batman-huge so just chill. (And I say Batman because his voice in this movie sounded exactly like Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne when in disguise as the Caped Crusader.

The predators were awesome as usual. I enjoyed seeing them in a film that focused solely on them and they didn't need to share the limelight with the even awesomer Alien. I was able to understand what they were about more.

In the end, we find out that one of the humans in the group of outcasts is evil. Too bad that person was my favorite (but then again, that's typical).

The film ends with the final survivors still stuck on the planet determined to find a way off of it after watching as more humans fall from the sky as they did.

Sequel potential? Yes, there's a lot of potential here seeing as the characters never got off the planet. Whether the studio will follow through with another sequel, to me, is unlikely (at least for the time being). The film did average with the critics and it was decent at the box office. Producer Robert Rodriguez (SpyKids) says he would definitely be up for a sequel and Adrian Brody claims that he is somewhat interested in reprising his role. So we'll see.

When recently asked if Hilary would release more music, she said this:

"You know what, I want to and I think that until I feel really inspired by something that I wanna do, like a way I want to go, I couldn't do it. I think one day I'll wake up and I'll say, 'That's exactly it!' you know, and then I could do it. But right now, I'm not focused on that."

At least it's a for-sure now. That's all I can ask for. It's been two years since her Greatest Hits album!

James and Anne to Host the Oscars!

Super exciting!

The 83rd Academy Awards will be hosted by Oscar-nominee Anne Hathaway and James Franco.

I loved Ellen and I loved Hugh Jackman, but I'm really liking this idea. Anne Hathaway was great two years ago in the opening number with Hugh Jackman. I expect great things from her. And what's also interesting is that James Franco is most likely going to be getting an Oscar nod for his new movie 127 Hours.

Can't wait! February 27th, 2011!
